After leaving Brands Indy behind, I hoped to have a much stronger start to Round 3.
Whilst I set my personal fastest lap around the Oulton Park circuit on my opening lap of Free Practice 1, the BMW was a handful and I still needed to decrease my lap times to be competitive.
We made some adjustments for FP2 and started to head in the right direction. I ended FP2 with my recorded time and ‘Ideal’ time (based on my quickest sectors over the whole session) being 2.6 seconds apart! Evidently I needed to relax more instead of trying to attack the circuit.
We made more adjustments for Qualifying the following day and put it on Row 12 for the race, 34th of 39.
We awoke to a wet circuit on race day and was due to be the first race of the day. We went out for the race with a dry setup and made my way up to 28th before the race got red flagged due to rain in certain sectors. Everybody headed back to the pitlane to change tyres for the new track conditions.
The rain had stopped and we was left with a 9 lap sprint to finish off our race. A few laps in and it started to rain once again. I fought my way up to 16th position before losing the front on the last lap.
Disappointed not to bring it home after starting from the back rows to then bring it into a potential position to score points.
A little greedy, could of created another opportunity before the lap was over but lesson learnt for next time.
Donington Park is our next event, supporting the World Superbike Championship.
